How to send Indian university transcripts to WES from abroad
Step by step for NRIs: getting official transcripts from an Indian university to WES or ECA in a sealed envelope, without flying back.
Updated 30 October 2026
Create your WES account and note your reference number, check WES's required documents for your degree, then ask your university to issue official transcripts in a sealed, signed envelope. The envelope goes to WES by courier with your reference number, and someone in India usually has to apply, pay the university fee and collect it on your behalf.
Before you contact the university
- Open a WES account, choose your evaluation type and note your WES reference number.
- Use WES's Required Documents tool to see exactly what it needs for your country of study and degree.
- Find your enrolment or PRN number, years of study and the name on your marksheets.
- Check whether your university sends transcripts to WES directly or hands you a sealed envelope to forward.
Getting the transcripts issued
Most Indian universities need an application form, a copy of your marksheets and ID, a fee, and an authorisation letter if someone else applies for you. Many also ask for a covering letter quoting your WES reference number, which should appear on the envelope.
Sealed means sealed
WES only accepts transcripts in an envelope sealed and signed or stamped by the university. If the seal is broken or the envelope opened, it is rejected and you start again, so never open it to check.
Sending it to WES
Courier the sealed envelope with tracking to the WES address your account shows, and keep the receipt. WES updates your account when the documents arrive, usually a few weeks after delivery.
If you need help
SafeNRI can apply at your university, pay the fee with a receipt, follow up and courier the sealed envelope to WES with tracking. See University transcripts and WES and ECA support.
